his unfortunate successor (Lot 403467). Then we'll examine a Tetarteron of Nikepho-

ros II Phokas (Lot 403734).

The Live Auction which ends on 27 September 2016 brings a very nice ensemble of

royal and feudal coins together. Among them, you’ll find more of the L.G. Collection

with a selection of coins from the Renaissance and early 17th century. A Henri II Ecu

known as “with croissants” with no Mint date [1552], from Paris (Lot 399791), and its

twin coin, the very rare Testone known as “with croissants” (Lot 399808); several Double

Henri, Henri and half-Henri gold coins; a Henry IV Ecu minted in 1594 in Paris (Lot

400153) and the half Ecu released by the same Mint (Lot 400157). King Louis XIII’s

coinage will be represented by a very rare and very beautiful half Franc minted in 1623

in Rouen (Lot 400178). Among the rarest feudal coins, we should mention a Jean III

de Craon’s gros minted in Reims (Lot 402093), an obol from Mende (Lot 402103) or a

Philippe-Guillaume de Nassau three-sol coin minted in Orange in 1607 (Lot 398752).

Of course, Napoleon will be represented in the catalog’s Modern French coins section

with a beautiful Jaley 2 Francs Bonaparte pattern (Lot 397823). Other rarities - a King

Charles X 20-Franc gold coin with a 4½-foil reverse die, 1825 A (Lot 399010) or the

sought-after Louis XVIII 40 Francs 1822 H gold coin, of which only 605 copies were

issued (Lot 402751).

The auction will end with a selection of World coins largely dedicated to Russia, includ-

ing an 1894 Saint Petersburg 10 Ruble from Dr. Nordmann’s collection. An 1822 Alexan-

der I 10 Zloty from Warsaw (PCGS XF45) will also be presented to you, as well as a rare

3-Pound Mary Stuart coin (1555) from Edinburgh. These are the only gold coins with the

portrait of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots.
