LIVE AUCTION Closing date: December 3, 2019 O ver 615 lots are for sale during CGB’s December 2019 LiveAuction. Orders may be placed from the beginning of November. The Live Auction’s closing (Live offers) will take place on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 starting at 2 pm (Paris time). The coins presented cover the entire history of numismatics, from ancient to royal and modern French coins, including world coins and medals. The sale will begin with a beautiful set of Greek coins (more than 70 lots). Superb Taranto didrachmas (such as lot 556063), a rare stater from Crete (lot 555669) or a magnificent hemidrachma fromArgos (lot 555400) is the highlight of this first chapter of the December Live Auction. Next up is a wide selection of Roman coins: beautiful Syro-Phenician tetradrachms (lot 555727), an Antoninus and Marcus Aurelius medallion (lot 551389) as well as a rare Gordian III Caesar denarius (lot 549670) will attract your attention. Nevertheless, it will definitely be the superb Julius Caesar denarius (lot 554707), rare especially in this exceptional condition, that will catch your eye. Byzantium will also be featured in this catalogue with about ten lots including a rare Anastasius miliarense (lot 515961) and a beautiful solidus with Tiberius III (lot 554918). Approximately forty Celtic coins complete the part dedicated to ancient coins. Abeautiful Bituriges Cubi winged victory stater (lot 554343), a superb Carnutes stater (lot 554037) as well as an unprecedented golden Parisii quarter stater (lot 554316) will close out the part of the Live Auction devoted to ancient coins. 551751 Among the 80 lots of French royal coins presented, there are two particularly interesting examples: lot 554936, an extremely rare gold écu with the chair for French king Edward III, and lot 551545, a quarter écu with the Dauphiné (1702) insignia. Only two other specimens of this particularly rare type of coin were known to exist – one from the Cabinet des Médailles at the BnF (French National Library) and another from a private collection. Next up are coins from the Modern French period (post-French Revolution).
