LIVE AUCTION Closing date: September 10, 2019 workshop in La Rochelle, a double Louis XIII louis d’or struck in 1640 in Paris (lot 537711) as well as the very rare Louis XIV 1/24 écu à la mèche courte et légende longue (with a short lock of hair and a long caption), 1643, Paris (lot 543771). A louis d’or à l’écu from Béarn, 1693 Pau (lot 544254), an écu aux trois couronnes au buste de l’écu (with three crowns with an écu bust) also called aux “huit L” (with 8 “L”), 1709 Bayonne (lot 545084) and a Louis XV écu called aux “huit L” (with 8 “L”) struck in 1725 in Pau (lot 541264) are also exceptional coins that we offer for sale. This selection of French royal coins also includes a rare medal from the Perpignan University annual prize (lot 529330). 544843 Feudal coins are very well represented with quite an exceptional set of rare coins, some of which originate from a collection built in the 19 th century. Many items of this collection are illustrated in Poey-d’Avant’s reference book and some of them were never seen again for 200 years now. They include a Marguerite de Bomès obole coin for Châteaumeillant, which was mistakenly classified in the past under Château-du-Loir, a Châteaumeillant denier imitating the Limoges barbarin coins (lot 541631), a greatly preserved John I of Lorraine gros coin, whose type we offer for sale for the first time (lot 544843), a previously unseen Charenton denier coin, extremely rare (some of them unique) Vendôme denier and obole coins, etc., and a Châteaudun piéfort coin. This whole series is simply exceptional as far as so-called “bléso-chartrain” coinage is concerned. The sale follows with French modern coins (post French Revolution). Several lots stand out: a trial strike with the module of the 5-Franc coin and the reverse of the 50-cent Semeuse coin (lot 541500), a Napoleon IV silver 5-Franc trial strike (lot 545401) and an extremely rare Guiraud 50-Franc silver piéfort (lot 545322) which we are offering for sale 7
