The sale starts with a nice set of Greek coins, among which there is a gold stater deca- litra from Cyrene (lot 503196) or a Ptolemy II decadrachm (lot 451366). Next up is a wide selection of Roman coins, with an interesting assortment of aurei including a Julius Caesar aureus (lot 501045), a beautiful Maximianus Herculius aureus (lot 501082) and a Claudius aureus with an extremely rare reverse. Byzantium will also be in the spotlight in this catalog with a dozen lots of gold coins mainly from one single collection. The solidus of Phocas, Anastasius II, Justinian, Tibe- rius II, etc., will take you on a trip back to the Byzantine empire. A large set of about 50 Gallic coins completes the ancient coins portion.
